The Truth About Why So Many People Voted For Trump
Cognitive Dissonance, Sexism, Racism and Fear of 'Other' Is To Blame
I just learned that a service provider I’ve known, respected and worked with for over 30 years voted for Donald Trump last month. We’ve never discussed politics before. We’ve always maintained a strict relationship firewall and ours was purely business. We somehow breached that boundary today.
He told me he’s a registered Democrat. But that he got fed up with “all this woke stuff”. It’s “too much”, he said.
“Kids go to school one sex and come home another”. I told him that was patently false.
He also complained about the border and said that the crisis is “out of control” and that “Unlike Biden, Trump will do something about it”. I informed him of Biden’s June executive order which has resulted in an almost 80% drop in illegal border crossings. He was unaware of this reality.
He also did not know that earlier this year Trump, to help his campaign by keeping the crisis a wedge-issue through the election, ordered Senate Republicans to kill a popular bipartisan border bill introduced by Republican Sen. James Lankford (OK) and others which would’ve been the toughest border security legislation ever.
I also asked him, as an Israeli-American, how much the war with Hamas and Hezbollah factored into his vote. “A lot”, he quickly replied, adding that it was the “main reason” he voted for Trump.
My last question was this: ‘So the fact that Trump’s a convicted felon and an adjudicated sexual abuser didn’t bother you?
“What do you mean? I don’t believe that”. I informed him that a jury of Trump’s peers in a civil trial found him libel for sexual-abuse, a ruling the Judge in the case, Lewis A. Kaplan, later equated it to what “many people commonly understand” as rape.
He just shook his head, dismissing this fact.
I left it at that. Clearly, none of it mattered.
I should state for the record that this individual is a highly-educated professional. A very bright practitioner. Yet I am not surprised by what he told me because it supports the narratives, and my personal belief, that sexism, racism, transphobia, and single-issue purity tests played a major part in Trump’s victory.
For way too many voters, the convicted-felon adjudicated sexual-abuser was more attractive than the highly-qualified black lady. Republicans could not vote for Kamala Harris and, sadly, many Democrats couldn’t either.
My husband has said the same thing. It also supports my belief people don't research facts. The bipartisan immigration bill was everywhere. And it was reported on several sites Trump wanted it shut down. But why would an Israeli-American be unhappy with Kamala and Democrats over the war in Israel? They have supported Israel.
